Chairperson's Message Thursday, March 17, 2005 Sauveur Award Night Greetings, This month we are very pleased to be hosting Rodney Boyer, the recipient of out Sauveur Award. His specialty in titanium & the application in the aerospace field should be enlightening for all of us. We are currently organizing for next year's committees. Travis Nelson is already off to a great start preparing for the '05-'06 year. If you have any interest in becoming more involved with the chapter, either serving on a committee or as a committee chairperson, please contact Travis or me. Everyone is welcomed to take part and have an active voice in the chapter. We are accepting applications for our first materials camp this summer. This is open to any student entering the 10th or 11th grade in September. Please contact me at dsn@salratm.com for an application for any student you know that would be interested. Again, if you know of someone who may have an interest in our chapter or ASM as a professional society, please invite them to attend a meeting. Remember, this is a great opportunity to meet others in the "material world". See you at the March Meeting, Scott Nyce 2004-2005 Chairperson This Month's Meeting Features... He was also an industry focal point for metals development activity on the NASA sponsored High Speed Civil Transport program, which was ultimately cancelled. He now serves in more of an oversight capacity with regard to metals research and development activity for Boeing Commercial Airplanes and the Phantom Works. Rod is responsible for the Boeing-Seattle effort on several Air Force Metals Affordability Initiative (MAI) programs and is the metals focal point for assuring compliance with Export Administration Regulations. He also serves as the ASM liaison to the TMS Titanium Committee. TOPIC: Materials Technologies and Trends on Boeing Aircraft Numerous materials technologies are required in the manufacture of commercial and military aircraft including metals, ceramics, composites, painting, corrosion protection, heat treating, forming, welding, etc, resulting in many opportunities for materials and chemical engineers. A brief overview of how some of these technologies are applied will be discussed. The main emphasis will be on metallic materials and processes and what is being done to improve performance and reduce cost. Meeting Registration -- Spouses and guests are invited and welcome.
