Chairperson's Message, Thursday, March 18, 2004, Albert Sauveur Night We were within a day of printing a newsletter for February that talked about the visit of our National President. How embarrassing would that have been. As you may know, Dr. Tucker caught the flu and canceled. We had to scramble at the last minute. Dr. Rick Knight of Drexel filled in with a very excellent presentation on the same topic - Thermal Spray. We also had a "coffee talk" presentation by Milan Ivosevic, a Drexel grad student working in thermal spray. His presentation included a 30 second video that was embedded in a power point presentation. Neat stuff. Despite one of the coldest days in years we had 20 members make presentations at the Executive and Operating Committee meeting, and 70 people at the general meeting. Thanks, also to Fred Klock, John Janiszewski, and Roger Jones for jumping in to handle the arrangements. As a former Bethlehem Steel employee, I am looking forward to the talk on ISG Plate at our March Meeting. Alex Wilson, our speaker, was with Lukens, which then became part of Bethlehem, which is now owned by ISG. And, of course the April meeting is our Sustaining Members Night, usually our biggest night of the year. Dr. John Fisher of Lehigh will give us an insider's view of the structural limitations that allowed the World Trade Center to collapse. As I write this we are selecting members for the Nominating Committee for next year. The members will be announced at the February Meeting. Our by-laws provide that I select the 9 members of the committee, which must include the current chair (me), the current Vice Chair (Scott Nyce) and last year's Chair (Don Jordan). Don will act as Chair of the Nominating Committee. The new slate of officers will be nominated at the March meeting and elected at the April meeting. Nominations can be made from the floor. At the same time, Scott will be selecting his Committee Chairs for next year. If you have any interest in serving as a Chapter officer, Committee Chair, or simply helping out, please contact Scott Nyce and let him know. You should try and do this before the March meeting if possible. If you have any questions about the procedures, consult your yearbook or give me a call. We have two social events on the schedule for this spring, a Dinner Dance on April 3rd and a Golf Outing on June 7th. Additional details are available in this newsletter. We hope you will join us. I look forward to seeing you on March 18th. Respectfully submitted, Jim Watters Chairperson 2003-04 This Month's Meeting Features...
