Monthly Newsletter of the Philadelphia Liberty Bell Chapter

Past Chairperson's Message, May 2003, Honors & Past Chairmen Night

The May meeting is our final meeting of the 2002 - 2003 year, and it is my final meeting as Chapter Chairperson. It has been an honor and privilege to serve you as the Chairperson of one of the best ASMI Chapters in the world. I thank the Executive and Operating Committees for their encouragement and outstanding support. I also thank the members and Sustaining Member Companies for their continued support of our yearly activities. Without your loyal support, none of the activities would be possible. Please come out and show your support one more time this year to honor our past Chairpersons and our Chapter and Service Award winners on May 15th.

I congratulate Jim Watters as our incoming Chairperson and offer him my wholehearted support. Jim has done as much as any Vice-Chairperson for this Chapter. He is a prominent member of the Finance Committee; he visited ASMI National on his own time for the sole benefit of our Chapter; he visited Villanova University and was able to get a professor there to agree to be our next Scholarship Chairperson; Jim was our Newsletter Chairperson this past year, and he also scheduled the plant tour at the Limerick Power Plant. Please join me in welcoming and supporting Jim as our Chairperson.

Finally, remember that June 2nd is the joint Golf Outing with ASNT at Limekiln Golf Club. This is our last event of the year and it is sure to provide lasting memories of what fun it is being a member of the Liberty Bell Chapter. It will also make you realize the great networking opportunities the Chapter provides when you participate in its activities.

Thank you for your continued support of ASMI

Don Jordan
2002-2003 Chairperson

Incoming Chairperson's Message, May 2003

To start I would like to thank Don for his kind words in the Outgoing Chairperson's message. I have enjoyed working closely in support of him for the past year.

Boy, what a tough act to follow. 2002-03 has been an outstanding year. We had an outstanding and innovative line up of speakers. A patent attorney, two national business leaders, two outstanding local faculty members, and a key R&D leader for the military. Three of these people happened to be women.

We had a number of great activities with several more still to come. We hope you decide to participate.

I'm very pleased that Scott Nyce has agreed to take the Vice Chair position for next year. Scott has been very active in the Chapter for a number of years, including the positions of Scholarship Chairperson and Young Members Chairperson. It will be great to have Scott's support again for next year.

The Executive Committee will be having a dinner meeting on June 18th to plan for next year. If you would like to be part of that meeting and you are not already involved with the Chapter, please give me a call at 215-699-0690 or e-mail me at dvua2@cs.com. We have a number of opportunities for you to get involved that will only require a couple of hours a month of effort.

We're looking forward to another great year.

Jim Watters
